Patna: The state govt has provided jobs to 161 medal-winning athletes under its flagship Medal Lao, Naukri Pao scheme, reinforcing its commitment to promoting sporting excellence and supporting athletes with secure career opportunities.
The appointments were made for sportspersons who won medals in national and international competitions during 2024-25 and 2025-26. The athletes have been directly recruited to various govt positions, including deputy superintendent of police (DSP), sub-inspector and Panchayati Raj officer.
Among the prominent beneficiaries are India pacers Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar, who have been appointed as DSPs in recognition of their achievements in international cricket.
The scheme aims to provide financial security and social recognition to athletes excelling at the national and global levels. By offering direct govt employment, the state seeks to ensure that sportspersons can pursue their careers without concerns about their future livelihood.
Alongside job opportunities, the govt has been investing in sports infrastructure, coaching facilities, sports hostels, training centres and modern equipment to strengthen state’s sporting ecosystem. Athletes are also provided cash incentives and performance-based rewards to help them compete at higher levels.
Sports minister Shreyasi Singh said the govt is committed to ensuring that talented athletes are not held back by financial constraints or uncertainty about their future. She said the scheme provides dignity and long-term security while encouraging more youngsters to take up sports professionally.
Singh added that the government’s vision is to establish Bihar among the country’s leading sporting states.
